A peek of LA

Just because it’s my home base doesn’t mean it’s less interesting to write about. On the other hand, it deserved a special spot on my site. I have lived in LA for 2 decades and despite some of its notorious downsides like traffic, high cost of living and homelessness problem to name a few, I will not have it any other way. This will always be the place that I would choose to call my second home, except probably for Hawaii. But that will be another story to tell. For one, climate is generally pleasant year round. While spring and fall are just awesome, summers and winters are totally bearable. No extreme weather to deal with.

LA is larger than life. A single blog will not be enough to map out a full and in-depth narrative. And as the title suggests, this article only aims to present a quick peek into this exceptionally enviable city.

So what is so special about the city of angels that makes it a very popular destination choice? Well, there is never a dull moment here, and we have its cultural diversity to thank for. LA is a fusion of race, languages, values, lifestyles and heritage, which is probably the magnet that attracts tourists and migrants all over the globe. The possibilities are endless and opportunities are unlimited, especially for strong-willed humans with bold ambitions and creative passions.

And what can be more glamorous than the symbol of fame? Welcome to Hollywood!!!…the place where celebrities gather and popular movies are created. The Hollywood sign is one of the most iconic landmarks in the world. It sits on top of a mountain and is visible across many parts of the city. For those wanting to have a closer view, a trailhead at the Griffith Observatory is a good starting point. You can also enjoy a nice scenic view around Hollywood Lake Park.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a another prominent attraction located in an extended walkway along Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street that consists of embedded stars bearing names of eminent personalities from the entertainment industry. A regular and amusing sight in the area are stars and superhero impersonators dressed in eye-catching costumes hovering around tourists in the hope of scoring a few bucks in exchange of a photo op. Located within striking distance are some famous attractions like the Kodak and Dolby Theater, Madame Tussaud, the Wax Museum, El Capitan Theater, World of Illusions, TCL Chinese Theater and the Guinness World Records Museum.

Approximately 25 minutes away from Hollywood Blvd is Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, known for its posh and ultra-lavish array of designer boutiques and fine dining restaurants and the most popular zip code in the world - 90210. Walk in style and feel like a star while enjoying the window displays, so that even if the shopping doesn’t suit you, it would still be a well worth visit, because not everyone could be afforded a chance to get up close and personal to this uberly glamorous street.

Let’s drive a little south towards the Pacific Coast Highway and enjoy a nice, leisurely stroll at the boardwalk of Santa Monica Pier. An arcade, a mini carnival, a bay aquarium, plenty of chic looking shops, restaurants, special events and performances, the world’s only solar powered Ferris wheel and a beach on the side, there’s so much to do in this mini amusement park. No entrance fees to worry about, but you’re most likely to pay for parking. The cool beach vibe coupled with the vibrant ambiance is what makes this place a favorite go-to location for casual day trips.

Two of the most popular and sought after theme parks in the world, Disneyland and the Universal Studios found their very first homes in LA. So visitors, be sure to include a meet and greet with Mickey and a courtesy visit with Harry Potter.

For the shopaholics out there, LA will be your best bet. Surrounded by numerous shopping districts, designer malls and boutiques, outlets, artisan shops, even bazaars, flea markets and thrift shops, one can truly call it a shopper’s paradise. Dining out is another favorite activity in this city. Its richly diverse culture paved way for a numerous variety of cuisine choices, from the traditional and classic to the exotic and ethnic.

Another thing that makes this Southern California destination phenomenal is its proximity to various attractions and getaway destinations which makes road tripping very popular here. These include state and national parks, deserts, lush forests, scenic mountains, cosmopolitan cities, beaches, casinos, hiking trails and a lot more. But what I like most about living in this city is the ability to be able to afford a balanced lifestyle, at a pace that I can choose, in a place that offers unlimited chances and opportunities. This allows me to focus on things that really matter most, something you’ll never get to enjoy if you were to live in other big cities like New York. And whether you’re a local, a frequent visitor or a first timer, there’s always plenty to explore and discover. So hop in and enjoy the ride.

Interesting trivia: LA is the birthplace of the internet and this took place on October 29, 1969.
